What inspired a Jersey Girl to write western romances?
Thanks so much for inviting me to guest blog today, Kim! You know me too well. Sometimes I wonder just where I fit—born in South Carolina, my parents moved 10 times in 9 years, finally settling in New Jersey—which if you’ve met me, might explain a lot. :-)
I love the change of seasons, and don’t know if I could live anywhere that didn’t have them, but I absolutely fell in love with the bold beauty of the brilliant blue sky and muted earth tones of the country out West. How could you not be moved by the grandeur of the wide open spaces, the depth and breadth of the Grand Canyon, the color palate of the Painted Desert?

Add to that a life-long love affair with my favorite TV Westerns: Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Marshal Dillon and Cheyenne and Silver Screen Legends: John Wayne and Gary Cooper. A tall, broad-shouldered, hunk of cowboy with rugged good looks is my idea of a hero. Cowboys have to work the land, take care of their ranch—the land and the animals. It’s a lonely existence and sometimes seems like it is all work with no free time to relax.
It takes a special person, one who is dedicated to this way of life, often-times it’s because it’s in the family—and the blood. Generations before him have worked the same spread, giving their all to the land, to the animals—and if they’re lucky—the woman strong enough to work alongside of him. These men have bled for their land…died for their land…nothing and no one is going to take it from them.
Don’t forget to add that dash of Country Music that I grew up with and how could I not love cowboys?
The Garahans add that extra something that I love to include in all of my stories: family names…so far I’ve been using the names from my Irish roots…haven’t run out of names yet…when I do, I might start on the Welsh names. :-)
So you’ve got the core of my existence: Romance, Family, Hearth & Home…if you want to catch up on the latest news, reviews, etc., see new pics of our darling grandbaby Jack, or try out one of my family-tested recipes, please stop by my website www.chadmirand.com.
